Tai Chi

Grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang demonstrates some simple taiji techniques

I had the pleasure of meeting Grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang shortly before he died a couple of years ago. One of his disciples took this informal video of him chatting with a few of his higher level students outside his apartments in Beijing, possibly 2001. Its interesting to watch the simplicity of his technique and yet the power he exerts seems to be out of all proportion to the effort. Watch in particular as he raises one man from the ground with a smple twist of the thumb. I have since then managed to find time to train at his academy in Beijing and I wish I could find a teacher in Hangzhou with whom to continue that training. The form he developed has a deep rooting in neigong and I think I wold be right in quoting a teacher who once said to me that he was one of the last Taiji masters who went deep into the neigong side of Taiji. There is an excelent biography and interview with Feng Zhiqiang you can read HERE.
